The owner of four dogs that broke out of their fenced yard in the Mondex and killed a neighbor's 20 chickens has been fined for letting the dogs run at large, and Flagler County Animal Control officers have been conducting follow-up inspections of his property.

Two of the dogs were taken by Animal Control as deputies and an Animal Control officer rounded up the loose dogs April 30, and both have since been returned to their owner, 31-year-old William Harland Cooper.

Animal Control officers rounding up the loose dogs also found five dogs caged on the property without food or water. Animal Control officers have since conducted a "wellness check" on the property and found no violations, Animal Control Supervisor Katie Share said.

"Usually we do them periodically, unannounced, just to make sure they are keeping up with what was recommended," Share said. A damaged area of fence around the property has also been repaired, Share said. "Everything fence-wise had been corrected, so there was no chance that the dogs are going get loose again."
