Ormond Beach was an exploration destination Nov. 5 for the Ormond Beach City Explorer event.
Hosted by the Great Kids Learning Center, five teams of explorers followed routes designated on their passports to visit seven sites throughout the city. Tour guides described detailed accounts of the people and places in Ormond Beach’s history and provided tours of sites such as The Casements, Rockefeller Gardens, Fortunato Park, the Anderson-Price Memorial Building, Rose Villa, Three Chimneys and Central Park.
Volunteers from Great Kids Learning Center and The Junior League of Daytona Beach served as tour guides at each site.
Following the event, an old-fashioned picnic was held at the Birthplace of Speed Park, where local musician Brad Yates shared recollections of his experiences with the Allman Brothers in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A trivia contest included stories about local celebrities and a review of Ormond Beach history learned throughout the day.
