Mary Margaret Kelley and Ed Kelley talked to their son, Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, on the phone.
Ed Kelley — the new chair of the Volusia County Council — is ready for a nap.
After 16 months of early mornings and late nights campaigning against incumbent Jason Davis, Kelley said he hopes to carry the high energy he felt after winning into his time on the council.
"There were days where we were up at four and didn't go to bed till 11," Kelley said at his victory party at the Rockin' Ranch Tuesday night. "It's been a lot of hard work from everyone. I hope this adrenaline doesn't wear off."
Kelley won almost 62% of the vote, and he said he was humbled and grateful for the support he had from his community. Even his son, Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, called from his tour to congratulate his dad.
"Brian called from Canada a little bit ago," he smiled. "He asked me how it went, and he was blown away."
The party also celebrated the victory of Dwight Selby for City Commission Zone 1. Selby also won with 62% of the vote against Jonathan Kaplan.
"Fantastic," Selby said looking over the crowd. "This is my first time being elected, and I'm excited to serve the city."
The race for City Commission Zone 4 was a lot closer, with Rob Littleton winning the seat against Harold Briley with 52% of the vote.
"I am honored to have earned the support of the citizens of Ormond Beach," Littleton said the next day, "and I hope to serve them well."
