Thief takes a seat

It's too late to drive off when car is on a tow truck.

Nov. 2

Have a seat

2:31 p.m. — First Block of Misty Falls Drive

Burglary. The victim said one of the wicker chairs was missing from her front porch. A neighbor said she saw an unknown vehicle on the street at 3 a.m.

 

Once warned ...

9:04 a.m. — 1100 Block of Northbrook Drive

Car Break. The victim said she was loading and unloading items from her car, which was parked in the driveway. The rear doors and trunk were standing open. Items taken included an old wallet with no cash or credit cards, tote bag with work papers, new clothing and makeup that were going to be returned to a store and a couple of gift cards.

The report noted that the officer, while on patrol a month earlier, had noticed the victim leaving her vehicle doors open. She was warned there were burglaries in the area.

 

Nov.4

Suspect says no to tow

2:25 p.m. — 100 Block of South Nova Road

Criminal Mischief, Damage to Property. The victim said she was in the process of repossessing the victim’s Mustang when he asked if he could move some property from the vehicle. She lowered the vehicle back to the ground and allowed him to enter it. While he was inside, the suspect started the car and attempted to drive it off the truck lift, driving forward and then reverse. A tire caught on fire and it spread to the strap and lift mechanism, causing damage.

The suspect offered to pay for the damages. He said he was just trying to get his vehicle back.

 

Nov. 7

Who ya gonna call

8:56 a.m. — 300 Block of South Yonge Street

Theft. The victim found an Apple Iphone 6S on sale on a social media app and agreed to purchase the phone from the suspect. She met with the suspect and paid $200 for the phone. She took it to a carrier office and was advised that it had an activation lock and was probably stolen.

It could not be determined who originally owned the phone and it was placed into evidence.

 

Nov. 6

Helping hand?

2:39 p.m. — 700 Block of South Atlantic Avenue

Theft. The victim said a friend of her boyfriend was helping her move. During the process, she noticed him pocketing one of her wrist watches. He said it was a mistake and handed it to her. After they finished, he walked away, saying he would get a ride home.

Later, she noticed several valuables were missing, including a Rolex watch and several gold coins.

The officer found the suspect in Volusia County Branch Jail website. She said she wanted to press charges.

 

Nov. 8

The old computer ruse

10:50 a.m. — 1100 Block of Wandering Oaks Drive

Fraud. The victim said that while on her computer, she was notified there was suspicious activity and to call a provided number. She called, and the suspect said she needed to download software for protection and pay $189. She was also told to provide her checking account number, which she did.

The next morning, she went to the bank to change her account number and she was told there had been no activity on the account.
