The city of Palm Coast will finish its second pass of Hurricane Matthew debris pickup, “conservatively” speaking, by Thanksgiving Nov. 24, and possibly as soon as the end of this week, City Manager Jim Landon said at a Nov. 15 City Council workshop.
“The second pass is, obviously, going a lot quicker,” he said. City crews and contractors are working on debris pickup seven days a week.
There will also be a third pass though the city, Landon said, to collect non-vegetative debris such as fencing and roofing shingles.
This week, the city’s regular waste collection contractor, Waste Pro, will begin its regular pickup schedule on neighborhoods that have already had a second pass of storm debris cleanup, Landon said.
The city has collected about 110,000 cubic yards of debris so far from Hurricane Matthew. The vegetative debris is being mulched, and other debris will be incinerated, starting this week. The city plans to keep the ashes, which can be used to enrich soil for landscaping.
