For the first time in 17 years, there will be a new Flagler County Veterans Service Officer. The Veterans Day event at Freedom Fest, on Friday, Nov. 11, was Sal Rutigliano’s last official day.
Maj. David Lydon, who made the Veteran of the Year presentation, will officially begin his duties as Veterans Service Officer on Monday, Nov. 28. If he stays as long as Rutigliano, he will retire in 2033.
Lydon is a major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, with three decades as a law enforcement officer, and military training. He has been active in the Flagler County veterans community, the high school JRROTC organizations, and was a volunteer driver for the DAV.
Lydon retired in 2010 as a New York State Trooper, in Claverack, NY, after 17 years of service. He was a criminal investigator for the last nine years of his duty.
His community activities include, being the 1st vice president of the Military Officers Association of America, Flagler County Chapter; a life member of VFW Post 8696, and is also a trustee and service on the house and planning committees. Lydon is also a member of American Legion Post 171, and the secretary of the Blue Knights Florida Chapter XXII.
