Human remains have been found in two locations in Flagler County within a week, but the cases are not related, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
In the first case, a Hunter’s Ridge resident searching for a crashed toy drone in the woods behind his Ashford Lakes Drive home the morning of Nov. 23 instead stumbled upon human remains about 100 feet into the woods.
The resident called the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. The medical examiner said the remains have been there for at least a year or two, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Investigators don’t yet know the age or sex of the remains, but the Sheriff’s Office news release noted that there were no obvious signs of trauma.
In the second case, workers cleaning up hurricane debris on the beach north of Varn Park Nov. 28 saw bones sticking out of the sand and called the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators found a human skeleton in a shallow grave.
The remains have been sent to the medical examiners office for analysis to determine age, sex and cause of death.
