Rivocean Drive is a quiet street on Tuesday afternoon. Residents tend to their yards and wave at neighbors walking by. They sit in their driveways and take it the 79 degrees with a slight breeze weather that makes their Ormond-By-The-Sea neighborhood look like a postcard. If you hadn't seen the news, you would have never know that just two days ago, a woman residing on that road had vanished after her afternoon beach run.
"I've been here 30 years," said resident Bill Chadwick, "and all I've ever heard of was a car being broken into many years ago. It was my daughter's car. And all they took were some religious CDs."
Many of the neighbors are still in shock, hopeful the woman will soon be found. Rachel Madison, 44, had been reported missing by her aunt after she didn't return from her run on the beach Nov. 27. Madison had been living with her aunt since she fled from her abusive husband in Indiana Nov. 16. According to the police report, her husband, Jarvis Madison, kidnapped her in his car Nov. 14 and threatened to kill her if she escaped. Rachel Madison was able to call her aunt for help, and she stayed on the line and her Jarvis Madison fire a gun at her when she tried to escape after he forced her to use the restroom on the side of the highway in Indiana.
Eventually — with her aunt still on the phone — Rachel Madison was able to convince Jarvis Madison to pull into a nearby Walmart parking lot, where her aunt met her and called the state police. Javis Madison got away.
Since returning to Ormond-By-The-Sea with her aunt, Jarvis Madison has made several calls to her aunt's house threatening her life if she does not return. The last call was made Nov. 27 about 30 minutes before Rachel Madison disappeared. According to the police report, Rachel Madison's aunt said things had been turning around for the mom.
"Since her niece has been residing with her, her spirits have been lifted and she had a positive outlook towards life. She began writing positive entries in a daily journal for her children to read, and was currently working on a resume to obtain employment. Her father was in the process of obtaining her a vehicle for transportation and things were starting to turn around in a positive manner."
Rachel Madison has suffered physical abuse from Jarvis Madison in the past, include an acid burn over her tattoo and a laceration on her neck from Jarvis Madison cutting her with a knife. The couple was living a transient lifestyle due to Jarvis Madison's fear of law enforcement.
Jarvis Madison is now wanted by warrant in the state of Indiana on a charge of criminal confinement, which carries a bond of $15,000 with full extradition. Jarvis Madison is believed to be armed with a 45 caliber handgun. He is a transient who has been known to frequent 24-hour Wal-Marts, gas stations and state or local parks.

Ormond-By-The-Sea neighbors who know the family say they're sending good thoughts to the woman and hope she is found safe soon.
"We know he has a gun on him," said Don, a neighor and friend. "All we can do is pray."
