Emergency officials have warned everyone to stay inside Friday morning as Hurricane Matthew approaches Flagler County.

A message posted to the Flagler County Emergency Services Facebook page at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7 said the storm was rapidly approaching, and residents should remain inside for the duration.

“Dangerous winds alone are reason enough to stay indoors,” Flagler County Public Safety Emergency Manager Steve Garten said in a Flagler County government news release issued at 7:21 a.m. “Please stay off the roadways. Now is the time to stay in your home. Do not leave.”

The county’s first responders, including law enforcement and fire rescue personnel, will have limited ability to respond as the winds increase to hurricane force. The will not respond once sustained winds reach 45 mph.

The county has set up a 24-hour information hotline about the storm for Flagler County citizens at 386-586-5111. People should call 911 for actual emergencies only.
