Halifax Humane Society’s Ruff Ride for the Animals
Registration from 3 to 5 p.m. at HHS, 2364 W. LPGA Blvd. Riders must be checked in by 5 p.m. and arrive at The Iron Horse by 8 p.m. to be included in the poker tournament. The annual ride will kick off Daytona Beach’s Biketoberfest. The poker run will include stops at South Turn, Giuseppe's Steel City Pizza, and First Turn, and conclude at Iron Horse where riders can enjoy one drink, a barbecue dinner plate, and live entertainment. Additional poker hands will be available for $10 at each stop. Tickets are $20 per person in advance and $25 per person at the day of registration. Purchase tickets at halifaxhumanesociety.org.
Fall Floral Mobile Class
3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. Free. Create a botanical felt mobile with blooms in the colors of fall. Craft a delightful decoration for your newborn or brighten the corner of any room. No experience needed and all supplies provided. Open to participants 16 and older. Call 676-3347.
Infant CPR Class
7 p.m. at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Medical Office Building, Classroom B, 305 Memorial Medical Parkway, Daytona Beach. This demonstration class teaches vital information in preparation for an infant’s life-threatening emergency, such as a choking baby or a near drowning. All instructors are certified by the American Heart Association in Basic Cardiac Life Support. Cost is $10 per couple. Scholarships are available and registration is required. Call 231-3152.
‘Family’ Conference at Riverbend
7 p.m. at Riverbend Community Church. Hoping to help families that are struggling in their internal relationships, Riverbend Community Church is hosting a Family Conference during the weekend of Oct. 14-16. Two pastors — Brian Shealy from Fellowship Bible Church in Mango, FL, and Phil Foley from Community Bible Church in Vallejo, CA — who have dealt with these issues for decades will join Pastor Menez with some steps for showing, as the conference theme suggests, “How to Restore Joy in the Home.” Saturday’s schedule contains a continental breakfast at 8:15 a.m., teaching sessions to follow. The conference then resumes with a Sunday session at 9 a.m. The $25 conference fee covers the cost of the Friday dessert, Saturday breakfast, book and other materials. Childcare (through 6th grade) is free, but it must be reserved by Oct. 9. Call 672-1821.
Eat Your Flowers: A Fanciful Feast of Garden Grown Florals
5 to 7 p.m. at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. Feed your curiosity and savor the creative sense of taste while we celebrate the unsung bounty of “Fall in Florida.” This fanciful feast of garden grown florals will introduce surprising ways to incorporate flowers into everyday food and drink. Local vendors Kale Cafe Ormond, Bon Gourmet, Humble Bumble Kombucha, and Schmancy Pops will cleverly craft sips and nibbles while discussing the benefits and possibilities of floral-based fare. Participants will partake in a delightful sampling including an appetizer, dessert, wine and kombucha, and also enjoy a hands-on experience with fresh, floral food. Open to participants 21 and older. Cost is $35 for members and $38.50 for nonmembers.
Provision Packs Fall Backpack Bash
6 to 10 p.m. at the Breakaway Trails Clubhouse. Costume fundraiser including a silent auction, donated food from local establishments, and a costume contest for our 150 guests. Reaching out to local businesses to help raise money to feed the hungry children right in our community. All the money raised goes directly to the purchase of food here in Ormond Beach.
Italian Festa
6:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Hall, 600 S. Nova Road. Dinner consists of salad, homemade lasagna, Italian bread, coffee, cannoli, and cake. Members cost $13 and guests cost $15. Stretch & Restore Yoga in the Evening Gardens with Sacha Lehman
6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. As sun sets in the museum gardens, surround yourself with enchantment and stretch your body to open new paths for creativity to flow through you. This relaxing class will leave you feeling calm and rejuvenated, including both stretching and restorative yoga. Appropriate for all levels, beginners can stretch gently, while more seasoned practitioners can progress to deeper stretches. Props will be available for extra support and relaxation. Please bring a yoga mat and a towel. Pre-registration is recommended. Cost for members is $10 pre register or $12 drop-in. Cost for nonmembers is $12 pre-register or $15 drop-in.
