They have been barraged with insults, complaints and stark discontentment from their customers, but the workers at Florida Power & Light Company have labored day and night to return power to Flagler County.
After Thursday evening, a mere 8,000 houses in Flagler County remained with power. The other 51,000 homes scrambled to adjust after the hurricane by eating cold food, taking cold baths – living in darkness – until they received light.
Meanwhile, dozens of trees around the county lie across dangled powerlines – some broken – thwarting any attempts restore power. Because of the damages, the streets have been filled with power, tree service and specialty trucks, heading in every direction to play a part in returning light to homes. Now four days later, the number of houses without power continue to dwindle.
As of 2 p.m., only 650 homes are still seeking power.
