Sandcrabs win district title
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs won the District 3A-6 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 22, at New Smyrna Beach. The Lady Sandcrabs placed runner-up.
For the boys, the win proved to be a total team effort. After all of Seabreeze and New Smyrna’s Top 5 runners were scored, both schools were tied at 32-32. It went down to the sixth runner, and Dylan Oakes improved his PR by 34 seconds for 14th place to gain tie-breaking points.
Logan Horning and Shane Brownwig led the Sandcrabs with a third- and fourth-place finish, respectively. Jared Bell (seventh) and Ian Yates (eighth) followed suit, and Nick Barnes closed out the Top 10. Every runner except Yates ran a personal best.
For the Lady Sandcrabs, senior Lea Gray won the girls’ race. Nina Browder placed seventh, and Grace Smith (11th), Moriya Patsch (13th), Cindy Saaman (14th) and Christina Vega (15th) closed out the Top 15. All girls ran personal bests.
Cyrus Fagan, selected to play in Under Armour game
Mainland’s Cyrus Fagan, along with family members, his team and friends, accepted his honorary game jersey for the Under Armour All-America Game during the Selection Tour at a press conference held on Monday, Oct. 24, at Mainland High School.
The game will feature more than 90 of the nation's best senior high school football players, based upon ESPN Recruiting. Fagan currently ranked No. 5 at his position in the nation. The Under Armour All-American Game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, in Orlando.
“It’s a blessing I’ve always dreamed about,” Fagan said. “I’m looking forward to becoming a better player by playing against the nation’s best.”
