Volusia County Schools received approval from the Florida Department of Education for its plan to make up five hurricane days, according to spokeswoman Nancy Wait. Three days will be made up by reverting five early release days to regular days. Those days will be Nov. 9, 16 and 30 and Dec. 7 and 14.  For the two remaining days, one day was made up on Oct. 21, and the final day will be made up on Monday, Feb. 20.

Four of the makeup days were caused by Hurricane Matthew and one by Hurricane Hermine.

State law allows lost time to be made up by hours/minutes instead of full days. Students are required to have a minimum of 900 hours of instructional time.
