Lorraine Vickery, Founder and Executive Director of Samaritan Ministries, was planning on “raising the roof” long before Hurricane Matthew blew ashore, and rescheduled her event.

The banquet and silent auction, a fundraiser to assist in purchasing a home for women in transition, will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Pine Lakes Country Club, 300 Pine Lakes Parkway N.

Vickery founded Samaritan Ministries in 2001 to help mothers and women in transition. The organization
provides advocacy, training, mentoring, support groups, budget counseling, car care ministry, food, free seminars and social gatherings for its clients. Samaritan Ministries walks beside abused, homeless and impoverished women, providing spiritual, social, economic, and vocational support, helping women to change their lives for a better today and tomorrow.

For information, invitations, or to donate items for the silent auction, call 437-4372 or 503-0445. Tickets are $35 each, tables of eight are available for $280. The event will include testimonies from previous residents of the organization's first Samaritan Inn.
