Sandcrabs, Buc and Greenwave headed to cross country state race
Now that regionals have wrapped up, Seabreeze, Mainland and Father Lopez have students who will be running in the state competitions.
The Sandcrabs girls and boys both placed third as a team. Logan Horning (fifth) and Shane Brownwigg (17th) placed in the Top 10 for boys, and Lea Gray (ninth) and (12th) for girls.
For Lopez, both girls and boys teams are headed back to states for a fourth consecutive year. The girls finished fourth and boys fifth.
Bryanna Pado closed out the Top 20 for the girls, and Noah Van der Burgt (fifth) and Tanner Rosolino (14th) placed in the Top 20 for the boys.
August Deberri will be representing Mainland, after placing 13th.
The Florida High School Cross Country State Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Tallahassee.
Locals help Gators win club tennis championship
Three Ormond students who currently attend the University of Florida (team captain Max Koller, Anna Rachman and Isabella Herrero) assisted the Gators' club tennis team in winning the Tennis on Campus Fall Invitational this past weekend, upset defending national champion Auburn University to win its third Fall Invitational in the past four years.
Rachman and Herrero won their doubles match 6-2.
Ormond Pride finishes regular season undefeated
The Ormond Beach Pride 14U finished the regular season with an unblemished 6-0 record. Up next, the Pride will be playing in its FYFCC Conference Championship game against the Gainesville Rattlers at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in Daytona. The winner will advance to the South East Regional Tournament in American Youth Football in Bradenton.
The Pride 6U, 10U and 12U teams will also be playing in championship games, making this the most successful season yet with four out of five levels. The 10U team advanced after a three-way tie with Flagler and Daytona. The firt game will begin at 9 a.m.
Buzz wins more medals
Buzz Porter, 81, entered 10 events and won eight at the Ormond Senior Games Saturday, Oct. 29, at Embry-Riddle University.
Porter He won gold in the 50-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter races, long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault. He also took silver in the shot put and bronze in the discus. In four of those events, he attained All-American status.
