Ormond Mainstreet named Thomas MacDonald president Oct. 24 at the organization's 21st-Annual Meeting at 31 Supper Club. The born and raised Ormond Beach resident says he plans to keep Mainstreet's positive momentum going and will continue to work on projects that bring people downtown.
The Ormond Beach Observer recently talked to MacDonald about what he's got planned for his upcoming term.
What are some of the future projects and obstacles you want to tackle as president?
"I want to keep the atmosphere going that we currently have. I'm excited about the docks that are getting built, and I want to bring more love to the east side. They are just as important as the river district."
What are your ties to the community?
"My family originally owned Billy's Taproom in 1935. My grandparents lived here when it was one wooden bridge and dirt roads. They eventually bought the MacDonald house and lived there. It was where my dad grew up. I worked at my family's restaurant until I left for school. I worked in Orlando for a little bit, but I had to come back because I have salt water in my veins. This town has been very good to my family."
