There's no task at Tomoka Elementary School that 90-year-old volunteer Felicia Vinciquerra won't do. Known around the campus as "Grandma V," Vinciquerra works at the school twice a week doing everything from running errands for teachers to laminating posters to tying students' shoes.
She started volunteering at the school when her grandson started kindergarten in 2001.
"He's 20 now, and I'm still in kindergarten," she laughed. "I like to stay busy. I'll do whatever job I can."
To celebrate Grandma V's 90th birthday, the school declared Oct. 25 "Grandma V Day" and held a party for her in the media center. Students came and visited the volunteer, bringing her birthday cards and giving her tons of hugs. Kids stood in a line out the door to greet her, and she took a moment to thank each and every one.
"The kids are so great," she said. "I feel like a celebrity when I come to school. I never expected this."
