There have been an estimate of 600 jellyfish stings in Volusia County during August, according to Senior Captain Tamra Marris of the Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.
Though beach safety hasn't had any reported stings in the past few days, they still urge swimmers to be cautious of jellyfish.
"We encourage people to always pay attention to beach condition flags," Marris said. "We fly these flags to warn people about water conditions and jellyfish. If we fly purple, it is most likely due to jellyfish in the water. Always swim in front of a lifeguard, and they will advise on the conditions for the day."
