Three buildings at the old Players Club tennis property, on Palm Harbor Parkway just south of European Village, are being demolished.
The 5,271-square-foot club house, built in 1990, and buildings around the pool area are all coming down.
Palm Coast city staff approved a demolition order for the site on July 27, according to city records.
Environmental Site Services, Inc., the Bunnell-based firm that was also hired to demolish the old ITT Corporate 1 building, is doing the work. The job value listed on the permit is $27,000.
The Players Club closed in 2006, and has since drawn complaints from city code enforcement staff and the ire of the City Council members, who wanted the overgrown property cleaned up.
It opened in 1986 with 16 courts, and in 1987 was voted "Court of the Year” by Tennis Industry Magazine. The property has been owned by holding company Mandela Holdings, LLC, since 2007.
The Flagler County Property Appraiser's website shows the 13.4-acre property as having a 2016 preliminary land value of $672,100, a building value of $1 and an extra feature value of $1, for a total just market value of $672,102. Its just market value in 2006 — the year it closed — was $2,877,450, according to the Property Appraiser's office.
