Destination Daytona, the entertainment and retail mecca at the intersection of North U.S. 1 and Interstate 95, continues to grow and develop.
It was recently announced that Jesters Live, the company that produced concerts in the pavilion, has called it quits, but a new company, The Venue, is picking up where it left off and is already scheduling shows, such as a recent Labor Day event with Scott Stapp, the “voice of Creed.” On Sept. 29, there will be an event called Make America Rock Again.
Debbie Ledbetter, who works in real estate and marketing for Destination Daytona, is looking forward to the new management, saying the company is planning events year-round.
There is also new activity on Destination Daytona Lane, located north of the entertainment area. A new business recently opened called Destination 4X4s & More, owned and operated by Jason Veloce and David Glassburn. They sell tires, wheels, suspension, lights and other parts and accessories for trucks and jeeps. They have a garage in back to do modifications and are planning an obstacle course on the lot next to the business.
Veloce sees the location as a perfect fit.
“Harley guys are truck guys,” he said. Also, they expect synergy with Giant Recreation World, which opened July 9, next door.
Destination Daytona hopes to develop the area further. At one time, a trampoline center was planned, but the owner backed out after two opened in Daytona Beach, one on Nova Road and the other on International Speedway Boulevard.
There are a variety of businesses in the central area including Saints & Sinners Pub, Big Scoop Ice Cream, Camouflage Dave’s Beef Jerky and More, Godfather’s Tobacco, Asylum Tattoo, Daytona Cycle Audio, Daytona Official Gear, Houligans, the Daytona Pig Stand BBQ, Destination Daytona Outlet Store as well as Howard Johnson Inn & Suites.
The big anchor is Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson at Destination Daytona, a two-story showroom where they are currently showcasing the 2017 models.
The businesses benefit from weekly events which include Super Swap Sunday, on the second Sunday of each month, for car and motorcycle owners. The event benefits a different charity each month. Other events include an after-hours party at the dealership every third Thursday as well as the Biker Block Party every first Saturday and more.
Other upcoming events include the annual motorcycle skills challenge for police agencies, set for Sept. 24, and the annual Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for Children on Oct. 1 and 2. The Back the Blue Jeep Convoy from Tampa will end at Destination Daytona on Sept 17, and, of course, they are gearing up for Biketoberfest to be held Oct. 13-16.
Ledbetter said Destination Daytona, with its Howard Johnson Inn & Suites on site, offers a getaway for visitors as well as local residents.
“People can stay the night, walk to a concert and enjoy the many places to eat and shop all within Destination Daytona,” she said.
