My overall season record: 9-1
Mainland at Pine Ridge: Mainland wins 57-0. In life, there are three certainties: death, taxes and a Mainland shutout against Pine Ridge. In the last four seasons, the Bucs have amassed 201 points to the Panthers’ 0. Pine Ridge hasn’t scored against Mainland since 2011, and the Bucs should be able to hold this streak Friday.
Playing as sloppy as they played against Flagler Palm Coast, Mainland still managed to pile up 40 points while only allowing 16. With a full practice week and the return of star safety Cyrus Fagan – Bright House Sport’s No. 1 football player, the Bucs will cruise to win No. 4.
Seabreeze vs. Matanzas: Matanzas wins 34-3. For the second consecutive season, the Pirates have begun the season undefeated after two games. They’ve maintained their defensive prowess from last year, and they found a gem in putting Philip Moultrie at running back, where he ran for 207 yards against Mount Dora this past Friday.
The Sandcrabs’ greatest weapon is defense, and they’re still seeking an identity on offense. While they scored their only touchdown against DeLand in their conservative formation, they gained a great deal of momentum from the wildcat offense. Either way, Matanzas should run away with this game early.
Father Lopez at Warner Christian Academy: Father Lopez wins 31-21. Father Lopez has declawed the Eagles in their rivalry over the last few seasons. After losing to Melbourne Central and Atlantic, Green Wave head coach Matt Knauss looks to get win No. 1 for the season and his coaching tenure at Father Lopez.
Like Lopez quarterback Josh Spencer, Warner’s Zach Hulec also plays games where he can light up the scoreboard or struggle to find double digits. This could turn into a shootout.
Expect Spencer to find receiver Atkins for a couple of scores to get the third straight win in this rivalry.
