Starting from the United States and Canada border, Jerry Lachance is riding to Key West — and making a stop in Ormond Beach.
The goal of his ride is to raise money for Ride2Recovery, a cylcing based program started in 2008 that currently serves over 10,000 veterans.
Lachance is a native from New Hampshire who was drafted into the army in 1968 and served 13 months in Vietnam. He was discharged from military duty with a Bronze Star in 1969. He served 22 years as a volunteer firefighter, is active in his church and volunteers at the Manchester, New Hampshire Veterans Administration.
The public is invited to an open house to meet Lachance from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 14, 1716 Atlantic Ave. Anyone interested in riding with him in Volusia County can call Mary Yochum at 295-5489.
