Members of the Palm Coast Professional Firefighters Local #4807 are set to kick off the fire fighter’s annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association find urgently needed treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility.
More than 60 fire fighters from Palm Coast are expected to participate, with boots in hand, in this year’s drive. Firefighters will be out from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 through Monday, Sept. 19, at the Publix grocery stores at; 4950 Belle Terre Parkway, 800 Belle Terre Parkway, and 250 Palm Coast Parkway.
“For more than 60 years, fire fighters have stood on the front lines with MDA in the fight to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harm of these life-threatening muscle diseases,” Fundraising Coordinator, Jasmyne Stanley said.
In addition to Fill the Boot drives, fire fighter contributions from year-round local events, including providing transportation for fundraising events and providing lunch for and visiting MDA Summer Camp help support MDA’s efforts to raise awareness and provide professional and public education about neuromuscular diseases.
Contributions also help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the MDA Care Center at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and UF Health in Gainesville. They also help send more than 40 local kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA summer camp at no cost to their families at Camp Suwannee.
