Seabreeze wins the Embry-Riddle classic
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs boys cross country team won the Embry-Riddle Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17.
While he only finished fifth for the team, Dylan Oakes stole the show by running the entire race with one shoe, after the other came off near the start. He still managed to place in the Top 20 (19th).
Logan Horning led all Sandcrabs with a third place finish, and Ian Yates (ninth), Shane Browing (13th) and Nick Barnes (16th) all finished in the Top 20. The Sandcrabs ran against 155 other runners.
The Seabreeze junior varsity team finished runner-up in its division.
Mainland’s August Deberri placed fifth, and Lady Sandcrab Lea Gray placed third in the girls competition.
Mainland golf continues to win
The Mainland Buccaneers took down Seabreeze, DeLand, Atlantic and New Smyrna to claim the Greater Halifax Golf Tournament Monday, Sept. 19, at the Riviera Golf Course.
Scotty Greene led the way with a 77; Logan Reese 81, Keith Froling 89, Tyler Reese 85, Shane Yelverton 85 and Justin Vigo 89. The Bucs have won 15 straight matches, which is the best in the last 15 years.
Buzz Porter wins more medals
Buzz Porter – who already has conquered well over 1,000 track medals – added 11 more medals to his collection from the Kentucky Senior Games on Sunday, Sept. 18, in Danville, Kentucky.
Porter won eight gold and three silver medals, and he attained All-American status in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus and shotput. He also broke eight meet records.
