The black and white Bayliner cruised up and down the Intracoastal Waterway on Saturday, Sept. 17. It was a beautiful day, but they were one of the only boats not out for fun.
It was the Palm Coast Flotilla 41 boat, and they were on the job, completing their first safety patrol for 2016.
A coxswain and two qualified crew members traveled from High Bridge to Matanzas Inlet. While out, the crew removed dangerous objects from the water and towed a boat in distress to a safe harbor.
Flotilla member are part of the U.S. Coast Guard auxiliary, and plan to patrol the waterway on a regular basis, now that they have two operational facilities and qualified crew members.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer, civilian adjunct to the U.S. Coast Guard, established by Congress in 1939. They promote and improve recreational boating safety and provide trained crews and facilities to augment the coast guard. They also provide complimentary vessel inspections for recreational watercraft.
