Several members of the Daytona Beach chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association will be going to the EWGA Cup finals in Rancho Mirage, California on Nov. 11 and 12. The women are members of a team called the 19th Hole Champs and they placed high enough in 18 holes of four-ball and 18 holes of singles on Sept. 10 and 11 in the Southern Qualifier at LPGA International to advance to the finals at Westin Mission Hills Resort.
The chapter was started in Ormond Beach 10 years ago. They play at Halifax Plantation and Riverbend, in Ormond Beach, and other courses.
“We are women with a passion for golf who come together for fitness, fun, friendship and professional networking,” said spokeswoman Connie Karby in an email. “We offer programs and events where you can meet and connect with engaging women of all ages with all levels of golf experience from a broad spectum of career paths.”
The EWGA Cup is an amateur match play competition conducted under the direction of the EWGA national headquarters. The local team consist of Melody Kimmel, captain, Katy Nelson, Jackie Poole, Jeanie Schreiber, Lea Buckley, Mimi Lenio, Pat Larsen and Suzette Sweeny.
Participating chapters in the Southern Cup qualifier included Cincinnati, Palm Beach, Polk County,Southwest Florida, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Manettee County, Sandhills, North Carolina, Orlando, Miami and Jacksonville.
Members of the Daytona Beach chapter will also take part in a stroke-play national championship in Virginia in October after doing well at a tournament in June in Winter Garden.
