Christ Lutheran Church, a congregation of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, welcomed the Reverend Judy Mattson as their new pastor, in June.
Mattson, a graduate of Wartburg Lutheran Seminary, has been a called servant of God for over 20 years. She came to Christ Lutheran after shepherding a congregation in Skanee, Michigan, for 18 years.
Prior to that, she was a chaplain and substance abuse director at a youth correctional facility and a mission developer for Keweenaw Lutheran Ministries, a church without walls covering 75% of the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. During that time she helped to establish a church with walls in Copper Harbor, Michigan.
She has experience and a heart for ministry to the elderly; having volunteered for 16 years as a home health care and hospice chaplain and was co-owner with her husband, Howard, of an adult foster care for 17 years. Her husband retired, for the second time, last summer when they closed the Home for the Aged and Mental Health Residents.
The Mattsons have been married for 44 years and have two sons and two granddaughters..
Mattson has come to Christ Lutheran, excited about the opportunity to see God work through the whole congregation of Christ Lutheran, as they reach out to all people in both word and deed.
