My overall season record: 16-2
Matanzas (4-0) at New Smyrna: Matanzas wins 31-3. The Pirates have become the team that other teams hate to play. Other than last year at Mainland, Matanzas has stifled every team it’s played in the last two seasons, and its offense has actually gotten better.
If New Smyrna’s 47-3 loss to FPC is indication of how this game might go, the Pirates are going to run through the Barracudas.
Seabreeze (0-4) at Pine Ridge: Pine Ridge wins 27-3. Every week it’s the same story: Seabreeze has no offense. The Sandcrabs failed to score a point again, this past week, which decreases the offensive scoring to a little over a point per contest.
Pine Ridge has only won a game, but the Panthers can actually score. While they struggle on defense, Pine Ridge will score enough to beat Seabreeze.
Mainland (5-0) vs. Deltona: Mainland wins 47-10. The Bucs have played a number of state-ranked opponents, and they continue to show why there are ranked in the upper echelon of all classes. Some journalists picked Apopka to upset Mainland, but the Bucs did to them what they do to all the other teams. They put up 40 points and demand their opponents to keep up against their defense – and it never happens. This game should be a cake walk for Mainland.
Flagler Palm Coast (1-3) vs. Sandalwood: Sandalwood wins 33-13. The Bulldogs play one of the most difficult schedules in Florida football. Their very best is demanded of them weekly, but they’re not able to compete with most of their opponents. While they played an exceptional game against New Smyrna, FPC will host undefeated Sandalwood this week. Other than their 17-14 win over Spruce Creek, the Saints have scored at least 35 points in all of their games while holding all of their opponents to 14 or lower.
Father Lopez (1-3) at Trinity Prep: Lopez wins 31-21. The Green Wave hasn’t been able to stop anyone this season. The defense allowed 35 points in Lopez’s only win. And the offense has struggled at times, but, as it showed in its previous game against John Carroll Catholic, it can score. Down 24-0 early in the game, the Green Wave put up 19 straight points – and then went scoreless for the rest of the game.
Both teams have struggled to stop other teams, but Lopez will score enough in the end to get the win.
