A trio of thieves stole more than $3,000 in fine wine and champagne from three Publix supermarkets the evening of Sept. 22.
Publix staff, not at first realizing that all three stores had been targeted, didn’t report the thefts until days later.
The first theft was at the store at 800 Belle Terre Parkway, at about 4:30 p.m. Three people walked into the store and stole about $600 worth of wine and champagne.
The manager at that store reported the crime on Sept. 25, telling a deputy that another store — the Publix at Island Walk on Palm Coast Parkway — had also been targeted by two of the thieves from the trio that stole from the Belle Terre store.
At the Island Walk location, the two thieves hid 47 bottles of fine wine and champagne —Moet and Clicquot — in stolen reusable Publix bags. They went cheaper on their dinner, stealing $8 worth of fried chicken.
At the third location, at the Publix at 800 Belle Terre Parkway, the thieves almost got caught when a store employee saw them try to leave with un-purchased wine. They dropped the wine and fled, pushing past the employee.
Two men were caught on camera stealing two Dyson vacuum cleaners from the Target on State Road 100 Sept. 24.
The pair entered the store at about 3:26 p.m., removed the security devices from two boxed Dyson Absolute cordless vacuum cleaners, put the vacuum cleaners in a cart and walked right out of the store, a store employer told a Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The two vacuum cleaners were together worth $1,198. Store employees told deputies that the same people had committed a similar crime the previous day, Sept. 23.
