Scott Bay, of Ormond Beach, an aquatics specialist at the YMCA, was recently named Coach of the Year at this year’s United States Aquatic Sports Convention in Atlanta. The honor recognizes a coach who exemplifies the highest standards in masters coaching, including an approach that welcomes swimmers of all abilities, according to a press release from the Volusia Flagler YMCA.
Bay, coach at Ormond Beach YMCA, has coached swimming for more than a quarter century at several levels. Most recently, Bay was approached by a “how to” book publisher out of New York to write the new edition of Swimming Steps to Success (available at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble), after reading his numerous articles in swimming magazines.
“I was both humbled and thrilled to accept this honor on behalf of the men and women I’ve coached over the years and the numerous coaches who have helped me and mentored me along the way, ”Bay said in the release. “Coaching has never been a job. It’s a joy. It’s all about the swimmers, and I’ve been blessed to work with some of the best.”
Over the years, Bay has held numerous volunteer positions with United States Masters Swimming, the American Swimming Coaches Association and the Florida Local Masters Swimming Committee. He has also developed the coaching curriculum for several swimming organizations.
