Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired at the Hammock Community Center April 1, and arrived to find multiple cars fleeing the parking lot, and blood spattered on the inside of the building.

The call came in at about 1:08 a.m., and deputies driving to the center on State Road A1A noticed heavy traffic flow coming the other way as they traveled to the scene.

Seven deputies responded to the call, and several approached the center itself while two others spoke with people who’d gathered in the parking lot.

Behind the building, they found an older model BMW with several people inside, who were later released to go home. No one was inside the building, “however, blood splatter and numerous clear plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance were strewn about the floor,” a deputy wrote in a case report.

Glass was also scattered across about the floor, from broken picture frames on the walls and from broken booze bottles.

Deputies searched the parking lot and found “numerous handgun caliber shell casings, as well as live rounds,” according to the report.

A helicopter was dispatched to check nearby woods for suspects, but found none.
