DeSantis is right to insist on replacement of Obamacare, not just amendments to it

What are your neighbors talking about?

Dear Editor:

I'm responding to the letter by Laura Finn, who closed her criticism by accusing our dedicated Congressman Ron DeSantis of being "simply in for the huge salary, benefits and generous expense account." It is clear Laura failed to do any research before putting pen to paper, or fingertips to keys.

DeSantis has rejected the taxpayer-subsidized congressional pension and health care plans for himself, and he has filed bills to end congressional pensions for all the politicians and to introduce term limits for both congressmen and senators, in support of President Donald Trump's campaign promise to drain the swamp that is Washington, D.C. DeSantis understands that the Founders intended we be served by "citizen legislators," not professional politicians.

Additionally, DeSantis knows we want Obamacare repealed, not just amended. And Speaker Paul Ryan's proposed American Health Care Act is 123 pages of amendments to Obamacare. That is not repeal, it is perpetuation of Obamacare.

In good conscience, there was no justifiable way for our principled congressman to vote for such legislation when he had promised us he would vote for repeal.

I urge our congressman to stick to his guns and continue to do what we elected him to do.

Keep up the good work, Congressman DeSantis.
