A piece of Ormond history that most residents might not be aware of was brought in front of the Ormond Beach City Commission April 5.
"It was the Stout House before it was the MacDonald House," said Ormond Beach Historical Society Board of Directors President Jeff Blass. "It was a boarding house for the staff of the Ormond Hotel. The rich history of the Ormond Hotel, which was demised with the hotel itself, can be remembered at the MacDonald House."
Blass was one of a handful of people who spoke during the City Commission meeting in support of keeping the house at its current location, at 38 E. Granada Blvd. Some elected officials and residents have proposed moving the house.
"Relocating the building is relocating the problem," Blass said. "There will still be problems with renovations and rehabilitation."
"I'm speaking for Bill Jones tonight, and he's a strong believer that the future is rooted in the past."

During the meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to accept the 100% Submittal MacDonald House Historic Structures Report, which was completed by Bender and Associate Architects. On the report, the house was called the Stout-MacDonald House.
"When I saw it on the report, I saw it as a very strong recommendation that that's what they believed should happen," said Mayor Bill Partington. "It's something we need to do officially."
Commissioner Troy Kent also spoke in favor of keeping the MacDonald House in place.
"Ever since I've been alive, it’s been here," he said. "And my son, it’s all he knows as well, and I look forward to his son one day knowing about it as well."
To conclude the meeting, the crowd in the commission chambers at City Hall applauded.
