Shark bites woman in Ormond Beach

A woman was bitten in the calf as she jumped off her surfboard.

A woman was bitten in the calf by a shark April 11 in Ormond Beach. The incident happened a little before 4 p.m. after she jumped off her surfboard in chest deep water, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.

The 35-year-old who is visiting from Canada was treated on scene and transported with nonlife-threatening injuries. The shark was not seen.

This is the third reported shark bite this year in Volusia County.
