Calvary Christian Academy’s Yasmin Perez win POY award
Calvary Christian Academy guard Yasmin Perez recently was selected as the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 2A Player of the Year.
This past season, Perez led Calvary to the school’s first ever FHSAA Final Four. Calvary would make it to the championship game but failed to Grandview Prep.
Perez went past the 1,000-point mark for her career, and she averaged a rare double-double with 16.6 points and steals 11 assists per game.
To begin the summer, Yasmin suffered a knee injury during a team camp which required surgery and extensive rehab. The surgery was performed by Dr. Mark W. Hollman, one of two physicians selected to care for the men and women basketball teams during the 1996 Olympic Games.
After a successful surgery and rehab, Yasmin reduced a six-month recovery time to four-and-a-half months. She made it in time for the season opener.
