The dead body found in a wooded area behind a house in Bunnell is that of a 48-year-old Charles William "Butch" Singer, who was a resident of the house and was reported missing in March.

He was shot to death, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office deputies found the body when they searched Singer's home at 80 Pine Tree Lane April 7. They questioned three people who were living at the property. At the time, deputies did not know for certain the identity of the body or the cause of death.

The Sheriff's Office released that information in a news release April 12 after an autopsy was performed by the Medical Examiner’s office in St. Augustine.

Singer had been reported missing March 23, and had last been seen about two months before. A Sheriff's Office news release issued April 4 reporting him missing noted that he was disabled, legally blind and did not have a driver's license.

Sheriff's Office deputies, members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and members of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Investigations Unit executed the April 7 search warrant, with Sheriff Rick Staly on the scene.

A cadaver dog brought in from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office found the body at about 10:30 a.m.

The Sheriff's Office contacted the Jacksonville-based Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Unit to aid the Sheriff's Office's Crime Scene Unit, according to the news release.

“We will do everything possible to bring this man’s killer or killers to justice,” Staly said in the news release. “We are conducting a thorough investigation.”
