This year’s Cheer at the Pier will be a celebration of Flagler County’s Centennial, complete with historical reenactors joining the party and a sneak-peek pre-opening of the iconic Flagler Pier which has been under repair due to damage sustained during Hurricane Matthew.

Both reasons make the 4th annual event this Saturday, April 22 even more special. The festival is the major fundraiser for the Flagler Beach Historical Museum.

For a $30 donation to support the museum, attendees are invited to join their friends and neighbors at the pier from 2 to 5 p.m., enjoy live music and taste samples from area restaurants along with craft beer and wine pairings. Participating eateries include the Beach Front Grille, The Blue Heron Beachfront Bistro, Break-Awayz, Funky Pelican, Island Grille, Oceanside Beach Bar & Grill, The Tiki-Tender, Tortugas, The Anchor, and Swillerbees Craft Donuts.

In keeping with the historical theme of the centennial, attendees can look forward to rubbing shoulders with costumed "Victorians," including Henry Flagler and John Astor.

While Flagler Beach's iconic pier is shorter than it was prior to its reconstruction, the fact that it is near reopening permanently is cause for celebration.

"We're excited for that, just as we are the kick off to Flagler's centennial," said Teri Pruden, director of the Flagler Beach Historical Museum.

Other upcoming events leading up to the centennial include:

  • A kayak launch from Longs Landing City Park at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 which will paddle to Bings Landing and include a historical discussion.
  • The Flagler Connect Chamber Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, April 24, with all five County commissioners teeing off the centennial week with a challenge to see who can drive a golf ball 1,000 yards.
  • Centennial Walk at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Government Services Building. The first 100 participants to cross the finish line will get a centennial medallion; plus a kids zone, food trucks and historical reenactors.
