The Carrabba's Italian Grill on Cypress Edge Drive in Palm Coast was evacuated the afternoon of Friday, April 14 after someone called in a bomb threat, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

The 29-year-old employee who answered the phone later told deputies that the person on the other end at first said nothing. Then, seemingly attempting to disguise his voice, the caller said something like, "I'm going to blow the f---ing building up," according to a Sheriff's Office case report.

The caller was calling from a blocked number, and disconnected the line before the employee could respond.

The employee told a manager, who contacted the Sheriff's Office about the threat. The call came in to the Sheriff's Office at about 4:26 p.m. The manager, after speaking with the Sheriff's Office, evacuated the building, and the Sheriff's Office brought in deputies and a bomb-sniffing dog.

"Multiple units conducted interior and exterior sweeps of the building, and nothing suspicious was observed," according to the case report.

Other buildings nearby were notified of the bomb threat, but weren't ordered to evacuate. The restaurant reopened the same evening.

The manager told the Sheriff's Office that, as far as he knew, nothing strange or suspicious had happened that afternoon before the bomb threat was called in. Carrabba's is working with the Sheriff's Officer to develop a protocol for responding to bomb threats.
