Stacks of blue, khaki and black denim pants piled up inside Indian Trails Middle School on Aug. 5 as volunteers and board members from the Kiwanis Club of Flagler County and the Flagler County Education Foundation sorted, tagged and bagged the jeans.
The Kiwanis Club collected more than 1,000 pairs of jeans from June 15 to July 31 to benefit Families in Transition.
Pat Bueltman, a volunteer with Flagler County Education Foundation, said there are 334 homeless children in Flagler County and many on free and reduced lunch. With this jean drive, as well the other supplies the Kiwanis Club collects, students who need clothing will be able to get help through their guidance counselors.
"None of this does any good sitting on the shelves," Bueltman said, pointing to the many piles of jeans. "Get it out to the kids who need it."
