An 18-year-old Ormond Beach woman was struck by an SUV while crossing Granada Boulevard on Sunday, July 30.
At 4 p.m., the young woman was leaving the Grind Gastro Pub when she approached the nearby crosswalk. A vehicle in the right lane stopped to allow her to walk across and while she was doing so, the woman walked directly into the path of an incoming Chevy Equinox.
The Ormond Beach Police Department reported that the vehicle in the right lane might’ve obstructed the SUV driver’s view. The woman driving that vehicle braked heavily, but could not avoid hitting the young woman, possibly in part to the wet road conditions. Police reported the young woman was struck at approximately 10 to 15 mph.
She was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, where despite having pain in her left leg, hip and shoulder areas, she was found to have no fractures or other major injuries. The young woman was likely released from the hospital the same day.
Police issued a traffic citation to the woman driving the SUV for failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian on a crosswalk.
