The Early Learning Coalition of Flagler & Volusia (ELCFV) received a $2,500 donation from The William J. Voges Foundation to partner with the Ormond Beach Police Department with the Officer Friendly program.

Beginning in September, Ormond Beach police officers will visit selected early learning programs to read stories to preschool aged children. The monthly visits will feature stories that focus on building children’s self- esteem, developing their social skills and creating positive relationships with police officers.

ELCFV will provide each early learning program with play based activities which will enrich their existing curriculum and extend the learning well after the officer has left  and leave a lasting impression on the children.

The William J. Voges foundation is a private, independent foundation that focuses on making a positive difference in the local community.  This investment in the Officer Friendly program, which reaches some of the youngest citizens of Ormond Beach, will make an impact lasting well into the future by helping children to become respectful members of the community.

ELCFV’s School Readiness program help prepares children for kindergarten and beyond and there are many more children in need of quality early learning. Those interested in partnering with ELCFV to help more children in need attend quality early learning child care programs, can call 323-2400.
