Local police K-9 units were deployed to help in the arrest of three burglary suspects this week. One adult and two juveniles from Daytona Beach were arrested at 116 Ocean Ave. in Port Orange at 4:56 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, according to police.
The K-9 deployment was a joint effort between the Port Orange Police Department, Daytona Beach Police Department and Edgewater Police Department, according to authorities.
According to Edgewater authorities, an Edgewater officer had previously spotted a suspicious vehicle while on patrol in Florida Shores.
Authorities reported that in addition to the K-9 units, police used stop stick hits, used to puncture tires, and followed the suspects on foot before the arrest in Port Orange.
In an online statement, police reported the three people arrested were determined to have stolen from unlocked vehicles. During the investigation, authorities found a fishing rod that was stolen from a boat in Florida Shores.
According to authorities, the boat was described as "smaller" and parked alongside a driveway, where a red pickup truck was also parked.
Authorities wrote they are "seeking to return the rod to the owner" as well as charge the three individuals arrested with another count of burglary.
Authorities are asking residents to keep their vehicles locked.
The Port Orange Police Department, New Smyrna Beach Police Department, South Daytona Police Department, Daytona Beach Police Department and Volusia County Sheriff's Office assisted Edgewater Police in the incident.
