A thief or thieves broke into about a dozen cars Aug. 10 — in two cases smashing in the vehicles' windows — as well as three homes, stealing guns, jewelry and cash. Many of the burglaries took place in Palm Coast's Seminole Woods area.
Burglars broke into homes on Ullian Trail and Sexton Place, and may have entered a home on Folson Lane. On Ullian Trail, the victim's home's door was kicked in and a large chest of jewelry stolen, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office commander's report. On Sexton place, a rear window was smashed, and four firearms and $7,000 worth of the victim's belongings were stolen. At the Folson Lane house, the victim found her real sliding glass door pried open, but didn't know if anything was stolen.
Thieves broke into vehicles on Underwood Trail, Universal Trail, Undershire Path, Uniontin Court, Colorado Drive and Corning Drive, in most cases rummaging through the cars but stealing nothing. Many of the cars had been left unlocked.
In two cases, on Underwood Trail and Universal Trail, the burglar or burglars smashed in locked vehicles' windows. On Underwood Trail, it wasn't clear that the burglar actually entered the car after breaking the glass, and in the Universal Trail case, the victim's backpack was rummaged through, but the victim wasn't sure if anything had actually been stolen.
The thief or thieves did make off with a radar detector, multi-tool and $15 of change from an unlocked car on Untiontin Court and $5 from a car on Corning Court.
The Sheriff’s Office is increasing area patrols and trying to find the stolen items, and is also working with other agencies that have seen an increase in such crimes, including the Daytona Beach Police Department, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
“If you see something suspicious, no matter how minor, please report it to the Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in the news release. “If you hear glass breaking or car alarms, or if you see someone suspicious in your neighborhood, call us. While we are increasing our patrols, we cannot be in all places at all times. We need the community’s help.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking community members to report tips to the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 386-313-4911 or [email protected], or to Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
