Port Orange residents will soon notice some big changes on the city's website design.
The redesign for the City of Port Orange website, port-orange.org, will be officially launched on Monday, Aug. 21. According to city officials, the new design is to "enhance online transparency and to create a more user-friendly site for its residents, businesses and visitors."
City officials partnered with CivicPlus, a website design firm for local government, to redesign the site to include features such as easier navigation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, improved citizen outreach and engagement, increased mobile accessibility and a stronger security and defense against cyber-attacks.
The new website will replace the existing Citizen Connection system with a Citizen Request Tracker, which is meant to improve mobile accessibility and internal efficiency when responding to citizens' concerns, according to the city.
“The website is an essential tool to communicate with our community,” said Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette in a press release. “With our new design, it will enable us to better organize and present valuable information to them. Also, by providing them a way to communicate through their smart phone or tablet, it will enable us to be more efficient when responding to our residents’ needs and create a more transparent city government.”
According to the city, updates to the website will continue throughout the coming months. The website will also include a downloadable app for smart phones and tablets from the Apple and Google app stores and will provide access to any module on the website in an on-the-go package. This also includes the new Citizen Request Tracker, which will allow for concerns to be reported to the city directly.
During a "Talkin' at Tomoka" event, Port Orange City Manger Jake Johansson said he would like residents to give the city feedback when the new website rolls out. He added that the city is working to be transparent, something he said the website should help with.
"Let me know what you want to see that's not on there, let me know what's on there that you don't want to see," Johansson said addressing residents. "We want you to know that website is your window for you to look into the city."
