Jessica Sznapstajler, the president of the Women United Volusia Chapter, just wants to give back.
On Friday afternoon, the Women United Volusia Chapter held its 14th annual Power of the Purse, luncheon and silent auction to raise funds for grants and scholarships for young women in Volusia County.
“The main goal of Power of the Purse is to raise money and it’s so important to give back to the community. Every net dollar gives back,” Sznapstajler said.
The event had several local sponsors including Halifax Health, Publix and 103.3 The Vibe, and the goal was to raise $30,000 to provide grants to the Volusia County community of women and children.
Along with the sponsors, attendees bid on several different items in a silent auction to raise money. There were several gift baskets filled with lotion, shampoo and other goodies. In addition, there was a car hood from the Daytona 500 that was signed by several NASCAR drivers.
There was something for everyone, and the organization wants to ensure that every woman can have an impact wherever they are and wherever they go.
“I’ve been involved since 2011 and what I love about this organization is that we give to not just one organization, but different organizations all around the country,” Sznapstajler said.
The event was organized by a committee on the Women United Volusia Chapter’s board. There are 32 board members and every board member gets together to do everything it can to fund scholarships for women.
The organization truly believes that they can get women moving in the right direction, and create a better future for them.
“I’ve been so blessed in my life with a family, friends, food and shelter,” Sznapstajler said. “And I think everyone deserves that.”
