Florida Rep. Tom Leek is now the Vice Chairman of the Public Integrity and Ethics Committee, as well as a new appointee on another — all while still a freshman in the House.
Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran announced the new committee and subcommittee assignments for the 2017-2018 session on Friday, Aug. 18. Aside from Leek's new leadership position in the Public Integrity and Ethics Committee, he was also appointed to the Ways and Means Committee.
The Public Integrity and Ethics Committee deals with matters regarding conduct and ethics of public officials — both state and local — as well as public employees, candidates for office and lobbyists. The Ways and Means Committee, in turn, revolves around taxation.
Leek also serves on the Local, Federal and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee, PreK-12 Innovation Subcommittee, Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee and Post-Secondary Education Subcommittee. Starting Sept. 12, the House will hold its first committee interim week in preparation for the next session in January.
