The City of Port Orange has launched a new mobile and web app to provide residents with information on residential garbage, yard waste and recycling services.
The free Recycle Coach app will enable citizens to keep track of "regular and special collections and events for household hazardous waste or e-waste days, and more," according to the city.
“This is a new way for us to connect with residents about our resource recovery and waste diversion programs,” Solid Waste Manager Mick Neals said in a press release. “We’ll be able to update the information on the mobile and web app as necessary during the year, so it will always be current. Residents will never forget a collection day and that should lead to increased recycling.”
The app includes a search function for users to find information about what to do with different types of items they are wanting to dispose of. Residents will also be able to receive tips on how to reduce and recycle waste. Additionally, the app can be used to send regular reminder updates for any collection program within the city.
According to the city, the mobile app is being added to communication outreach activities but printed materials will still be distributed with information on the website for residents who "prefer traditional promotional and educational materials."
The app can be downloaded from the iTunes Store and Google Play (Search “Recycle Coach”) or can be viewed on the City of Port Orange website, www.port-orange.org (Search “Recycle Coach”).
