It's been a community effort, as residents bring in items for animals affected by Hurricane Harvey. Walk in the Petco at the Pavilion, and that effort can clearly be seen near the entryway, where large piles of donated goods are waiting to be delivered.

The store has also been working with the Southeastern Humane Society and Pawsibilities Rescue Group, two organizations that have been seeking to help animals displaced by the storm.

The Humane Society has already been transporting dogs from the Gulf and bringing them to Florida to help other shelters open up more room for additional animals. Pawsibilities has been collecting donated items for the animals as well.

Petco Store Leader Randy Wickham said one of their employees was also able to partner with PODS Moving and Storage to create an additional place to keep all the donated items.

"We are getting collections of food, treats and blankets that are being picked up by the two organizations," Wickham said. "It started coming in dramatic fashion after the hurricane."

The Petco Foundation has also started a campaign to raise $2.3 million to provide emergency support to animal welfare organizations in Texas and Louisiana.

"It's just paying it forward," Wickham said. "It's a wonderful thing to see communities come together and individuals come together to help others and pets. It's just the nature of people who shop in places like this that are pet enthusiasts. They're not just people who have a pet, but they care."
