Volusia County became the 16th group to form a solar co-op during special meeting held at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center in DeLand on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The co-op groups, led by Florida Solar United Neighborhoods in partnership with the League of Women Voters in Florida, work to increase accessibility to solar energy through organized group solar installations, educating people on the subject and keeping an eye on the state’s solar policies.
Two members of the Volusia County Council spoke at the meeting. Representative Heather Post talked about how solar energy goes in hand in hand with the Green Volusia program, and Representative Billie Wheeler outlined the importance of support from elected officials and business partners in the county.
