The local Walmart, located at 1521 W. Granada Blvd., will be adding a stand-alone liquor store in the near future.
The liquor store will measure about 5,000 square feet. This is an amendment to their Planned Business Development zoning.
A public hearing on the matter is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, at City Hall.
Ormond Beach insurance company Security First launched an employee matching gift campaign with the American Red Cross.
Security First has vowed they will double the amount of all employee donations to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey relief. For example, if an employee donates $50, Security First will donate $100.
The campaign will run until Sept. 8.
The FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools received a $30,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, which will be used for Project IBIS at Rose Bay, teacher and classroom mini-grants and energy-related teacher trainings.
Volusia County public school teachers are able to apply for the STEM and energy mini-grants until Sept. 8. The grants for the 2017-2018 school year will be awarded on Oct. 12.
Also supported by Duke Energy's grant is the Rose Bay learning center for Project IBIS, a school environmental learning program. The center is located in Port Orange. The other two learning centers in Project IBIS are the Bicentennial Youth Park in DeLand, and the Lyonia Preserve in Deltona.
In addition, the grant supports teacher training, which helps provide local participating STEM teachers with more learning tools.
The Genuine Management Services of Ormond Beach has been accredited by the National Home Watch Association for second year in a row.
Owners Joseph and Marisa Rains help manage single-family homes and condominiums while the homeowners are away. They formed Genuine Management Services after the need for Home Watch and specialized concierge services grew in the community. They serve Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, Port Orange and Daytona Beach Shores.
The NHWA was formed in 2009 to regulate standards for Home Watch and absentee homeowner services in the U.S. and Canada.
